Single Ply Roofing

Single-ply roofing systems are applied in one layer and are either thermoplastic or thermoset. There are various types of single-ply membranes including:

EDPM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer): This type of membrane is made from synthetic rubber. EDPM roofs are black, flexible, and require little maintenance.

TPO (thermoplastic olefin): TPO roofing systems are heat welded and have a white reflective surface that can reduce cooling costs.

PVC (poly vinyl carbonate): PVC systems are similar to TPO, but are more appropriate for use where there is exposure to chemicals, grease, oils, or fuels. This type of roof is easy to install and is heat welded.

Modified bitumen roofing systems utilizes bitumen that has been modified to increase the flexibility and expansion properties of the membrane. This type or roof has stronger expansion and contraction properties.

There are two common types of modified bitumen roofing systems. SBS (styrene-butadiene-sytrene) and APP (attactic polypropylene) both utilize a two-ply system of overlapping membranes for increased durability and flexibility. APP roofing systems are installed using a torch, while SBS systems often use asphalt or cold-applied adhesives.
